Single vs 3 vs 6 vs 12 Channel ECG: Which One Do You Need?
"Channel" is one of the most misunderstood ECG specifications. Here is what it means in practice.
What "channels" mean
A standard ECG has 12 leads (I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF, V1–V6), recorded from 10 electrodes. The channel count is how many leads are acquired and printed at the same time.
- Single channel: one lead at a time.
- 3 channel: three leads at a time, in four groups.
- 6 channel: six leads at a time.
- 12 channel: all 12 leads simultaneously.
Comparison
